CODE Europe – 10 Cities tackle Air Pollution

CODE Europe: 10 Cities in Europe tackle Air Pollution Issues

From Berlin, Brussels and Amsterdam in the West, to Athens and Lisbon down South, to Riga, Tallinn, Burgas, Budapest and Podgorica in the East – Citizens of Europe grapple with what to do about air pollution that drifts amongst them all.

In an ambitious effort initially launched by the EEA and Norway Grants, bringing together diverse talents and applied skill sets from across Europe (ECAS, eGovernance Academy, CSS – Centre for Social Sciences, ManaBalss.lv, ProInfo, Citizens Foundation, OneSource, SciFY, European Environmental Bureau, Institute for electronic participation, Providus, city of Athens), and growing to include and digiDEM, we are happy to serve as key partners in reaching out to the residents of 10 major cities across Europe to find out how they view the transnational problem of air pollution, and what ideas for solutions they might have.

Running the second phase of the 3 year project now, from April 1 of this year until June 31st, Your Priorities will serve as the platform for crowdsourcing solutions and facilitating deliberation in all of the cities involved. From Berlin, Brussels and Amsterdam in the West, to Athens and Lisbon further South, to Riga, Tallinn, Burgas, Budapest and Podgorica in the East, the project will generate a working picture of public opinion across the continent.

Working with experienced partners in each region, we were able to localize and tailor translations across 10 different languages and a variety of political environments, no small task. Building on our Social Listening methodology developed in the PaCE project for the EU, we will deliver a similar dashboard output, one that allows for an easy to understand graphical representation of how opinions around air pollution have evolved in each region over time.
